Diving into a lengthy and elaborate post because the past week had been really enjoyable for me! Here it comes everyone~
Saturday, CNY eve
I woke up early (too early in fact) just to hit the town, so much so that none of the shops were opened upon my arrival ha. But I eventually went shopping by myself and I must say that it was pretty successful albeit last-minute *pats shoulder*. It was like an adventure for me, especially considering I hadn't gone/done any shopping since the term break previously. Shopping felt like a rarity ha ha but I enjoyed the experience thoroughly! 4 hours were spent in Bugis because I spent so much time considering my purchases (indecisive as usual). Too bad Betty wasn't able to make it, but maybe it's also a good thing otherwise I might have risked myself spending more because of her persuasion ha ha! But in the end the shopping was well worth it so three cheers for me :')
Tuan yuan fan with my family in the same evening!!! It was the first reunion dinner on CNY eve since 2008, which makes that 5 years ago. Think I should dig out the family photo that we took at that time to take a good look at how different we are now, physically or otherwise. Even though at this point in time we still have our differences, problems, challenges, I'm just so thankful to God for bringing us through the past half decade, loving and moulding us all individually and together as a family. I pray that 5 years into the future I can look back and say that Jesus has touched our lives in a deeper and greater measure and brought us closer together. Wow wow wow it is gonna be great indeed :)
Anyhoo dinner was at the same tze char at Maggie's Thai-Chinese restaurant at Liang Seah Street 5 years ago ha I'm not surprised that the 5 of us always go back to the same place: we are all creatures of habit and comfort. And post-dinner activity was supposedly to go to Chinatown for jalan-jalan and probably counting down but no because Mum quipped about having to wake up super early for the next day's early morning Sunday service (I know right). So we wound up talking a long walk right up to The Cathay at Dhoby before sitting down at Ben & Jerry's and then going home. It was simple but I enjoyed it, the entire time we were all just chit-chatting and catching up and talking on and on ha I love it.
Sunday, CNY Day 1
Woke up early for Sunday morning service. It lasted for 90 minutes thank God and half the time my mind was drifting off elsewhere (brb guys, repenting) because of the utter lack of beauty sleep. Thankfully after service I was able to squeeze in some family time at IKEA before rolling off to work.
That's right, I went to work on the first day of the Chinese New Year. Two reasons: 1) double pay on both the first and second day of the lunar new year 2) I sought my dad's permission and he allowed me to work HE ALLOWED IT I mean it's a good thing but then again... whud. I honestly regretted it because it meant that I had less family time (true enough after I left IKEA the family went to have a feast at the restaurant without me. Think meatballs, grilled salmon, croissants, apple pie... ) and it's not like we spend a lot of time with each other so there goes... gah it's all over so forget it.
Anyway I went to work and it was surprisingly... enjoyable. It felt like I'd worked long hours but there were hardly any customers around so I wound up chit-chatting with my fellow colleagues (including the new part-timers!) and surprisingly I actually enjoyed myself! The slight pang of regret was still there but then again all things work together for good I guess. Btw check out the mountainous piles of pre-folded boxes for the yu sheng/sushi tray.
I worked for the first half of the day, became pretty pissed by the time my shift ends HAHA oh well I may have been too kind.
Dinner was at a family friend's place, Uncle Herman, Dad's primary school (or was it secondary school? Or university?) friend. Again the last time I saw the family was 5 years ago ha I'm not even kidding. It was fine and there were a lot of catching up with Auntie Citra and Yoshua. Lots of stories shared and points made across but yeah it was interesting. Oh and this is the only house I'd visited so far! Wish I'd have all my relatives over or me being back in Jakarta, think CNY would've been livelier.
Tuesday, CNY Day 3
Rolled over to JB with Dad and le younger bro! Checked out a new mall we hadn't visited which turned out to be a disappointment because it was small and the only ideal activity to do there is shopping, which even then wouldn't be that enjoyable coz many of the shops were still closed for the holidays. So in the end we went back to the same old City Square (ha) and had lunch at our favourite/usual place (told you we're creatures of habit) which was re-opened after the renovation works in the mall are done with!! Truth be told the food wasn't as fantastic as when we first ate there so that's a(n almost) thumbs down for the cafe :(
Then we caught A Good Day to Die Hard!! I wished they had ABTM2 but it wasn't released in Malaysia yet (I KNOW RIGHT!?) so this was the replacement ha ha. Thankfully the show didn't disappoint! It was pretty good and I like it (biased judgement here because I'm a fan of action movies though I don't watch a lot a lot of it). Takers' still my favourite ha sorry guys Bruce Willis.
Wednesday, Back-to-school
Yup as the header suggests... *sigh*
(Very unfortunately) as usual the group takes a hell of a long time to make a decision before we finally settled down at Strictly Pancakes for dinner. What-a-Spread! (said with extreme enthusiasm *cue Bettina*) was really a spread, and neither me nor Betty could finish the meal though we shared it. Yeah I enjoyed my pancake and the ambience was great and the staff is friendly and all but no it's never gonna be in my you-can-consider-eating-here-for-lunch-or-dinner list. Or maybe it can be in the list but it'll be way down at the bottom ha sorry pancakes.
Food aside it was nice having dinner with the big group!!
Today, Officially the last day of school for B1J02
I still can't believe it's today. I have looked forward to this day very very much because it means that the holidays (okay fine, exams before that) are coming. But then again it meant that it was the last tutorial classes with the class. It's not a big fat deal but I am certainly going to miss being in the same class as my (current) classmates. Dammit I could just go on and on rattling 'bout this ugh.
Anyway we had Ssikkek (2 Day 1 Night!) together where we stuffed ourselves silly (and full) (and fat). Great night with Bernie Betty Corinne Jus JJ Brian! Roasting watermelons and all haha all these make great memories, really. And like what I'd said on IG, cheers to many many many more dinners (and outings!!) to come! I love you my amigos :)
Believe it or not I took almost 2 hours to draft this post because I did so much reflection and reminiscing (which grew increasingly thinner towards the end ha isn't it obvious that my brain's slowing down at this hour of the night--2 am) for this post.
So anyway, Happy Valentine's Day to all you happy people! My Valentine's had been great the past few years and I guess today was no exception. I'd like to think that days spent with great friends make great days. Honestly today was a perfectly normal day until I saw every other person holding a stalk of rose or a bouquet. Sigh all the lovebirds ha ha.
Thank heavens there' no school for me tomorrow. I'm truly madly deeply grateful.
It's sleepy-time!
